He likes rolling terrain, has a good finishing kick but above all plenty of character. Luca Colnaghi pursues his goals with both mind and legs: and last weekend his objective was to perform well and make a name for himself. Second in the sprint that decided the GP del Lazio and animator of the breakaway that characterized over ninety kilometers of the Giro di Campania, the 27-year-old from Bardiani CSF 7 Saber told tuttobiciweb about his weekend in the saddle.

"I'm very satisfied. Saturday I finished second behind a top-class rider like Dorian Godon, someone who wins stages in prestigious WorldTour-level races and who was among the favorites on Saturday. I have nothing to complain about, quite the opposite, I'm happy with my performance" says Colnaghi.

Then, as he often does, Luca analyzes his performance more carefully and, almost looking for where he could improve, adds: "Maybe I attacked a bit too hard in the final kilometers, I could have saved my legs a bit, but that's how I am—I like to attack, to try. I'm not someone who sits back. However, even if I had saved myself, I don't think I would have been able to beat Godon at the finish line in Anguillara Sabazia".

Attacking was the key word for Colnaghi's Sunday, who, after about forty kilometers from the start of the Giro di Campania from Caserta, decided to break away from the group with other riders. "It made no sense to stay in the group, I knew the race would heat up heading into the Agerola climb and that's exactly what happened. I hoped we attackers could gain a bit more, but anyway it went well. I got my legs turning, and most importantly, I made myself visible. I hope it all comes in handy for next season" declares the cyclist from Lecco.

Luca seems already focused on 2027. We point this out to him and he confirms: "That's right. My contract is expiring and I hope to find a solution".

Colnaghi pauses for a moment, almost wanting to emphasize the concept he's about to express, then adds: "I believe I've demonstrated that I'm a professional. I don't mind training intensely and working for the team. I think I can be part of a lead-out. The important thing is finding the right project".

In his 2026 racing schedule, Colnaghi currently has forty-two race days and thirteen top-10 finishes. Among these stand out his victory at the Trofeo Città di Brescia and his fourth place at the Italian Championship in Cuneo where he was beaten by Alessandro Romele. 

Luca Colnaghi emphasizes the two results he achieved at the end of June: "I wanted to do well at the Italian Championship, it was one of my goals and by working hard both physically and mentally I managed it. I learned that by staying focused and concentrated on your objectives, results come, and I proved it by winning shortly after the Città di Brescia, a race I really love".

The athlete from Mandello del Lario is now at home preparing for the end of the season. "For now I have the Coppa Bernocchi (October 5) and Gran Piemonte (October 8) on my schedule. I'll try to be a protagonist to finish the year well and then focus on the future. Which I hope is still in the peloton as a professional cyclist" he states.
