Surprise upset at the Tour of Binzhou 2026. The fifth edition of the Chinese .1 race (which became a one-day event two years ago) was indeed conquered by twenty-three-year-old Ukrainian Serhii Sydor who, certainly, was not credited among the main favorites for the final victory considering the value and credentials of some of the riders at the start.
Despite this, the rider from Huansheng-Vonoa-Taishan Sport Team threw himself into the decisive sprint without any hesitation, managing in the end, thanks to his acceleration, to celebrate his second professional victory after the one achieved in the road race at the 2024 national championships.
Behind the 2002-born rider from Moshoryne (who moved in 2025 to the ranks of Gallina Ecotek Lucchini), in order, the veteran former UAE and Quick Step rider Alvaro Hodeg (since last year a member of Team Medellin-EPM) and Enrico Zanoncello (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber) had to settle for second and third place, still searching for a victory that has been missing for more than two years.
Outside the podium, instead, Paul Hennequin (Euskaltel - Euskadi), Alexander Salby (Li Ning Star) and, in sixth place, Lorenzo Cataldo (China Meitan Cycling Team) finished, achieving his second best placement of the season in a .1 category race or higher after the third place achieved in the third stage of the China Xizang Trans-Himalaya in August.
