After two stages in Pistoia and today's stage in Lucca at Segromigno in Piano won by Canadian Sidney Swierenga, the 30th Giro di Toscana-Memorial Michela Fanini arrives tomorrow in Montecatini Terme for the grand finale on Viale Verdi. It will be the longest and most challenging stage and anything can happen in the final battle for the pink jersey. On the penultimate day at Segromigno in Piano, after the morning tribute to remember Michela Fanini and her mother Giulietta, the victorious protagonist was Canadian Swierenga, who launched her attack on the climb alongside unfortunate Australian Dixon, who was forced to leave her breakaway companion 4 km from the finish due to a mechanical issue. For Swierenga, a stage victory and the conquest of the pink jersey.
Worth noting was an initial breakaway by Dutch rider Nina Kessler and Italian Rabbia, who gained an advantage of 2'18" before being caught at the 54 km mark. Another breakaway attempt by Deotto, Tserakh, Luccon and De Marigny was neutralized by Pavesi and Basilico, but this too was unsuccessful. On the Valgiano climb, Swierenga and Dixon attacked, and this proved to be the decisive moment.
STAGE RESULTS: 1) Sidney Swierenga (Liv Alula Jayco) 116.8 km, average speed 38.876 km/h; 2) Malou Eisen (Volkerwessels) at 26"; 3) Yvette Maya Kingma (Aromitalia Vaiano); 4) Berteau at 46"; 5) Arlandson.
