If it works, there's no need to change it. That's why Portuguese Iúri Leitão will remain with Caja Rural-Seguros RGA for at least the next two seasons. The Olympic Madison champion from Paris will therefore defend his gold medal at the Los Angeles Games as a member of the Spanish team, where he has found the perfect balance to successfully combine road racing with the main commitments of a track cyclist of his caliber, including World Championships, European Championships, and the Olympics themselves—competitions in which he has won titles and numerous medals.
Leitão (Viana do Castelo, 1998) has become, since joining the green team, one of its key riders and a reliable source of victories season after season. In fact, since his arrival in 2022, he has always recorded at least one victory per year, a tally that has already risen to three in the current season: the Loire Atlantique Classic, the second stage of the Anicolor Grand Prix, and the final stage of the Tour of Magnificent Qinghai. Furthermore, his top speed and his ability in final sprints have allowed him to secure podiums and notable placings at the Route Adélie (2nd), the Trofeo Palma (4th), as well as in stages of the Vuelta a Burgos and the Tour of Hainan.
His palmares with the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA jersey includes two stage wins and the general classification at the Tour of Hellas, as well as stage wins at the Gran Premio Beiras and the Volta ao Alentejo, two of the most important stage races in his country. His palmares also boasts a victory at the CRO Race and another at the Ronde de l'Oise in France. Among his most memorable performances stands out the brilliant victory at the Trofeo Palma last year, where, in a group packed with WorldTour stars, Iúri surprised everyone with a perfectly timed attack in the final meters.
With this contract renewal, the team secures the future of a rider who represents a fundamental element of the squad, in perfect harmony with the work ethic and mentality of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, and who guarantees visibility and impact both on the road and in the most important track races, where he is currently one of the best specialists in long-distance events in the world.
