Team XDS Astana and Uruguayan cyclist Thomas Silva, fresh from his overall victory at the Arctic Race of Norway, have reached an agreement to renew and extend their contract. Under the new agreement, Silva will remain with Team XDS Astana until the end of the 2029 season.
The twenty-four-year-old Silva is experiencing his debut season in the UCI WorldTour and in the first eight months of 2026 has already secured eight victories with Team XDS Astana, including two stage wins and the overall victory at the Tour of Hainan, a stage win at the Giro d'Italia (where he also wore the Maglia Rosa for several days), victories at the Clásica de Ordizia and the Clásica Castilla y León, plus his recent stage win and overall victory at the Arctic Race of Norway.
"I am very happy to remain with Team XDS Astana for at least another three seasons. From day one I have felt at home in this team: I felt the support and trust of everyone from my arrival and, honestly, I couldn't ask for a better environment to continue my career. The most important thing is that I and the team share the same vision of cycling and how my career should develop. The results I have achieved this season are clear proof of that. We have built a fantastic group and I am always happy to help my teammates when they are fighting for a result. At the same time, I know I can always count on their support whenever I need it. This is the right approach and our team continues to prove it. Winning the Arctic Race of Norway is a great achievement for both me and the team, but there are still several months left until the end of the season and many objectives we want to achieve. So now it's time to keep working," said Thomas Silva.
"Thomas has started his WorldTour career with our team in an exceptional way. He adapted very quickly, established an excellent relationship with both teammates and staff, and this allowed him to achieve high-level results immediately. He had an excellent Giro d'Italia and, subsequently, we decided to focus on specific objectives for the rest of the season, without rushing his development and postponing the other Grand Tours to the future. I believe this is the right strategy, which allows a young rider to progress step by step, preparing consistently for each new major objective of his career. This new agreement is designed to strengthen Thomas's position as one of the team's leaders and to allow us to continue working together in the right direction and at the right pace," said Alexandr Vinokurov, General Manager of Team XDS Astana.
