With the victory achieved last Saturday, Remco Evenepoel has become the greatest specialist of all time in the San Sebastian Classic. The Belgian rider has indeed celebrated his fourth victory in Basque country, following those achieved in 2019, 2022 and 2023, surpassing by one the Spaniard Marino Lejarreta, now second in the all-time standings with 3 triumphs. 

Belgium has brought its total victories in the San Sebastian Classic to 6: Evenepoel's 4 victories added to those signed by Criquelion in 1983 and Gilbert in 2011. Ecuador, with Richard Carapaz's second place, has become the 21st country to reach the podium at least once in the history of the Iberian race. Great Britain, with Ben Tulett's third place, returns to the spotlight after 11 years since Adam Yates' triumph.

Remco Evenepoel has signed his 10th seasonal victory in individual races, the 5th considering only World Tour events. For Belgium, there are now 15 victories in the main UCI circuit of 2026, a figure that ranks fourth in the nations' standings behind Denmark (20), Slovenia (19) and France (17). 

Italian cycling has been stuck at 11 victories in World Tour races of 2026 since May 31st, the day Jonathan Milan won in Rome in the final stage of the Giro d'Italia. A drought of over two months that Italy will try to break already this week at the Tour of Poland.
