The memorabilia of Toni (Antonio) Bevilacqua will also shine at the Alto Livenza Cycling Museum in Portobuffolè (Tv). The agreement was reached at the town hall in Spinea where his eldest son, Franco, is mayor. Also present at the meeting were the mayor of the smallest municipality in the Treviso area, Portobuffolè, Andrea Susana and municipal councilman Valter De Martin, Municipal Councilman of Portobuffolè with responsibility for sports, referent for the Alto Livenza Cycling Museum. The meeting was organized by Renato Stefani, 91 years old, a native of Treviso, former cyclist and masseur of Toni Bevilacqua.
Following the death of Toni's wife, Adriana Fregonese, who lived in Treviso, in late May, Franco and Lucio, Toni's sons, want to donate their famous father's memorabilia to the museums in Cesiomaggiore (Bl), dedicated to Toni, and to Portobuffolè. "It is a great satisfaction for the Cycling Museum of Portobuffolè to have the precious objects of Bevilacqua, one of the most famous figures in Italian cycling," says a satisfied Valter De Martin. "We can't wait to display them. Stefani donated to us the jersey signed by Miguel Indurain, which had been donated and signed to him a few years ago by the Champion."
Toni (Antonio) Bevilacqua, although he belongs to cycling of the past, made Italy great. He was a professional from 1940 to 1955, winning two world titles in individual pursuit (1950 and 1951), 11 stages of the Giro d'Italia and the Paris-Roubaix in 1951 ahead of Louison Bobet and Rik Van Steenbergen. He was nicknamed "Labròn" for a very simple and physical reason: he had a very pronounced and fleshy lower lip. The nickname was given to him by the famous journalist Gianni Brera. Toni Bevilacqua's death occurred in a hospital in Mestre following a tragic road accident at just 54 years old.
During a training session, on March 29, 1972 in Martellago (Venice), he fell, hitting his head violently after accidentally hitting a pedestrian. Today his remains rest in the cemetery of Sant'Angelo di Santa Maria di Sala (Ve), his native country.
