She did not make it, Laura Viktoria Härtig: after 19 days of agony, the 30-year-old German cyclist passed away due to the consequences of the terrible accident she suffered on the descent of Passo Sella.
The cyclist, originally from Penzberg, was cycling down the descent towards Canazei: for reasons still under investigation, she collided head-on with the motorcycle ridden by former alpine ski champion Peter Runggaldier, 57 years old, who was climbing in the opposite direction.
After the violent impact, the thirty-year-old was rescued, resuscitated and transported by helicopter to San Maurizio Hospital in Bolzano, where she had been admitted to the intensive care unit in desperate condition. Despite the doctors' efforts, the young woman was unable to survive the very serious injuries she had sustained and passed away in a Bavarian clinic to which she had been transferred on July 9th.
Laura Viktoria Härtig had married just weeks before the terrible accident and was in Trentino as part of her honeymoon trip with her husband.
