After three seasons, the paths of Red Bull - BORA – hansgrohe and Primož Roglič are set to part ways. The 36-year-old Slovenian athlete, fresh from winning the national time trial championship title, is out of contract and the agreement binding Roglič to the team led by Ralph Denk will not be renewed.
The news comes from colleague Daniel Benson, who on his website publishes some statements from the General Manager of Red Bull - BORA – hansgrohe: «Primož is a true sportsman and wants to continue, I admire him for that. With us he has made a journey that, however, will end on December 31st» said Denk.
Pressed by Benson, the German manager then explained why he decided not to renew the contract with the winner of the 2023 Giro d'Italia: «It is a decision linked to performance. We have a group of great emerging talents and we need to manage the available spots». The recent renewal of Jai Hindley suggests that Red Bull - BORA – hansgrohe wants to continue betting on the Australian as one of the team's leaders for stage races.
As for Roglič, it is certain that his next objective will be the Vuelta a España, where the Slovenian will be hunting for his fifth victory in the general classification.
