The celebration of the Unione Ciclistica Costamasnaga experienced a moment destined to remain in memory: the phone call, directly from New York, from the Minister of Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi. An unexpected gesture that enhanced the celebration of the recent triumph at the National Meeting in Viareggio, the seventh national title in the history of the Lecco-based team.

President Egidio Mainetti, moved, recounted those minutes on the phone with the Minister, who expressed his congratulations for the successes achieved and for the work carried out in developing young athletes. «He promised he will come visit us to see firsthand our reality», Mainetti emphasized, the driving force behind one of the most solid and recognized teams in the national cycling landscape.

A tricolor procession to celebrate the triumph

From the cycling track in Brenno in Costamasnaga, a bus carrying 60 young riders, decorated with tricolor flags, departed and traveled for 75 minutes through Lambrugo, Nibionno, Tabiago and Rogeno before returning to Costamasnaga. The team was welcomed in Piazza Mercato by a roar of enthusiasm and a festive crowd: present were Mayor Sabina Panzeri and Deputy Mayor Cristian Pozzi, who presented the well-deserved recognition to the protagonists of a historic success.

An afternoon of emotions, pride and fun to celebrate a unique result: Costamasnaga is the only team in Italy to have won the national title seven times. Enormous credit goes to the athletes, but also to the commitment and passion of the entire management staff and sports directors, who during the Viareggio event followed step by step the achievements of their young riders: Antonio Usuelli, Agostino Zanotti and Luciano De Capitani. A team that works in harmony, with method and dedication, and that has built over time a reality capable of excelling at the national level.

With the celebrations concluded, the team led by Egidio Mainetti is already ready to get back to work. Saturday, July 11, the team will organize the Lombardy Road Championship for the Youth category, a prestigious event that will bring the best regional talents and over 400 participants to Brianza.

The following day will be the turn of the “Lombardy Youth”, an event reserved for the beginner categories (single race, start time 9:00 AM) and junior riders (11:00 AM). Two races that once again confirm the centrality of Costamasnaga in Lombardy youth cycling activities, capable of alternating triumphs and organization with the same quality.
