Luciano Draghi left us on Tuesday, June 23rd. He was 93 years old and had a heart filled with that passion mixed with humility, which allowed him to be considered an authentic leader of cycling even though he never held an official position, because through his behavior he taught us that cycling can be cultivated in many ways.

Such as believing in its promotion through local television, becoming an extraordinary pioneer with the broadcast "Ultimo Kilometro". It was the early 1980s and from then on, for decades, he never stopped giving us images and newspaper articles with the sole purpose of making the "small" of cycling in his land, in his region, "great" – that which he saw growing through the humble work of grassroots cycling clubs, always hoping that a champion would pass in front of his camera.

Many times we from GS Progetti Scorta transported him. He possessed a particular gift: it was as if he wasn't on the motorcycle at all, a feather would have done worse, it was a pleasure to be with him because he made you feel good about yourself, at ease, within the race, close to the riders in the most intense moments, enjoying together with him the most beautiful spectacle: cycling seen from its roots!

We were also guests on his broadcast many times. He shared with us the commitment on safety issues and whenever he could, he wanted to be a protagonist in it as well.

His modesty and his grace, on one hand taught us to be better, on the other hand did not fully reward him in the eyes of those who, at certain events, did not put him in the best conditions to operate compared to others in communications accustomed to demanding more for themselves. He always worked with modest means, extraordinarily effective thanks to his professionalism and authentic passion.

Luciano always knew how to manage this particular ability of his to keep one eye forward while taking a step back. That point of balance that for many of us was exactly what we needed to deposit his memory forever in our hearts.
