Exactly forty-five days after his successful campaign at the Tour de Romandie, this Wednesday Tadej Pogacar will pin his number on his back for what will be his final competitive test before the highly anticipated Tour de France next July.
To fine-tune his condition in racing ahead of the major event of his summer, the Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates-XRG has chosen for the first time in his career to line up at the start of the Tour de Suisse, an event where from June 17-21 he will seek answers and victories supported by a lineup capable of racing hard at any moment.
Alongside him on the Swiss roads will be riders such as Felix Großschartner, Brandon McNulty, Jhonatan Narváez (returning from the road race at the Ecuadorian championships, which he finished in ninth place), Domen Novak, Nils Politt and Tim Wellens who, with their climbing abilities combined with their capacity to take turns tackling the various challenges of each stage, can certainly put the two-time World Champion in the best conditions to rack up new personal victories.
"I arrive at the Tour de Suisse feeling in good form and motivated. It's my first time racing here, which makes the experience even more exciting" declared the current road race world champion through his team's official channels.
"Over the past few weeks we've completed an excellent altitude training block and, after seeing our teammates race and achieve good results on multiple fronts, we can't wait to pin our numbers on our backs and make the most of all the work we've done" continued a determined Pogacar, focused on the road to the Grand Boucle, having already won the general classifications of Tirreno-Adriatico, Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, Volta Catalunya and Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (formerly the Dauphiné), the sixth week-long stage race of the seven most prestigious races on the international calendar.
Guiding the twenty-seven-year-old from Klanec from the team car in this mission will be Andrej Hauptman, Marco Marcato and Simone Pedrazzini who, in the event of a Pogacar victory or another UAE team rider winning, can celebrate for the third consecutive year at the Tour de Suisse thanks to victories achieved in 2024 by Adam Yates and in 2025 by Joao Almeida.
