Giacomo Ballabio's victory with Team Vorarlberg concluded the fifth stage of the Małopolski Mountain Race with a finish on Mount Chełm: the Italian was ahead of his teammate, Swiss rider Collin Suessi, while third place went to Czech Michael Boros of Kasper Crypto4me.
Just as it has happened in previous years, the stage proved to be particularly spectacular: in addition to the final climb to Góra Chełm, there were also passages through Stare Ryba and Kobielnik to overcome. Several breakaway attempts characterized the stage, but the peloton firmly held the situation and never allowed the leaders an advantage greater than 2 minutes.
In the final kilometers, Giacomo Ballabio and Collin Suessi accelerated, with only Michael Boros able to stay on their wheel.
On Saturday, the cyclists will face the 134-kilometer stage from Wadowice to Nowi Targ.
