The countdown is now in its final stages: Saturday will see the team presentation in Reggio Calabria, and Sunday will mark the start of the first of eight stages that will cover six regions (Calabria, Basilicata, Puglia, Abruzzo, Lazio and Campania) for a total of over 1,093 kilometers, all across Central and Southern Italy. Once again this year, Team Biesse Carrera Premac will be at the start of the Giro Next Gen, the prestigious international showcase reserved for the Under 23 category where the Brescia-based Continental team led by Marco Milesi and Dario Nicoletti is competing with six athletes. In recent history, Team Biesse Carrera Premac has left its "pink mark" in 2023 with Danish rider Anders Foldager (winner of the final stage Tavagnacco-Trieste) and last year with Filippo Agostinacchio, "king" of the Ovada-Acqui Terme stage.
The 2026 line-up will see Stefano Leali, class of 2004, as the most experienced rider and the only one to have already experienced the Giro Next Gen (two participations in the last two editions). For the rest, all are making their debut in the pink race with Leonardo Vesco (class of 2005), Andrea Donati, Cristian Sanfilippo, Alessandro Milesi and Nicola Zumsteg (2006).
"We have," said sports director Marco Milesi, "a very young squad, with four athletes from the class of 2006 plus a third and fourth year Under 23. Unfortunately, Michele Bicelli's injury is a blow for us: we were counting heavily on him for the general classification. Now we have a line-up of riders suited for stage racing. Vesco will be our leader and together with Leali and Sanfilippo will be a reference point for the more demanding stages. Milesi and Donati have the qualities of road racers, while Zumsteg will try to aim for the general classification as long as he can."
Team Biesse Carrera Premac promises daily "battle," as emphasized by the other sports director Dario Nicoletti. "We will try to attack in every stage; not having a sprinter, even in the faster stages we will try to get into breakaways. Compared to last year, this will be a different Giro: with one extra rider per team there will be more race control and it will be harder to escape the group, but our mission is to attack every day: we have the right men to do it."
