After Gaetano Gazzoli, who passed away a year ago, the Gran Premio Capodarco loses its second pillar. Adriano Spinozzi has indeed decided to make a clear choice: "I announce my irrevocable resignation as organizer of the Gran Premio di Capodarco, without Gaetano it's no longer the same..."
It's not a surprise, Spinozzi had been thinking about this decision for some time: the loss of what was a brother as much as a friend, the rapport never achieved with the Gazzoli family who inherited Gaetano's legacy... these are the reasons behind a farewell announced just over two months before the 54th edition of one of the most beloved races in Italian youth cycling.
"For over thirty years I actively collaborated in organizing the Gran Premio di Capodarco Comunità di Capodarco, taking care of the technical aspects of the race. Since Gaetano passed away, something has changed. He was always ready to share every idea, he motivated me morally and trusted me blindly as his point of reference for everything surrounding the race. In practice, I contacted every Italian and foreign team, managed relationships with federations and local authorities, the police, prefect's office, municipal police of Porto San Giorgio and Fermo, municipal offices, I dealt with sponsors and managed all the volunteers. But now I prefer to step back. I no longer feel that enthusiasm that Gaetano himself used to fuel. It's a painful decision that I never wanted to make, but which I consider inevitable given the lack of transparency in corporate management and the financial organization of the race".
And further: "Mine is an act of love towards those who have always believed in me, first and foremost Gaetano Gazzoli himself. I sincerely thank all the people who have supported me, my family who has made more sacrifices than I have, the friends who continue to stand by me. I will continue to pursue my activities in the world of cycling and finally I thank the Comunità di Capodarco and Don Vinicio Albanesi. The race has always been linked to the Community to promote those human values and solidarity. And for almost thirty years I have continued to carry out my duties dedicating myself to welcoming the most vulnerable people".
