Work continues diligently within the Unione Ciclistica Lucchese 1948, which has received the well-deserved recognition of organizing the Italian Under 23 Championship on Sunday, June 28 in Lucca. A recognition for what the association has done in favor of sport over many years and in recent seasons thanks to the passion and commitment of its president Angelo Battaglia and his father Gianfranco.
The tricolor race already has its first entries. The Italian Under 23 championship will take place on June 28, will be held over a distance of 165.700 kilometers, and on the eve, Saturday June 27 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the San Francesco Auditorium, the verification of athletes' licenses and the delivery of various accreditations will take place, while at 5:45 p.m. at the Cappella Guinigi the technical meeting of the jury, race directors, organizing association and teams is scheduled.
On Sunday, June 28 at 8:30 a.m., the gathering will take place on the Urban Walls-Casermetta San Paolino-Baluardo C. Catalani; at 10:30 a.m. there will be the presentation of the teams, then at 11:20 a.m. the unofficial start is scheduled to reach, after 1,900 meters, the Pasticceria Stella on via Pisana from where, at 11:30 a.m., the official start will be given. The route will wind through via Sarzanese, via di Carignano, passing three times over Monte Pitoro and in the final stretch, through via di Carignano and via delle Gavine, there will be a passage through Chiatri before descending onto via Sarzanese. Finally, viale Einaudi, viale Luporini and viale Nieri, to reach the finish line between 3:30 and 4 p.m. on viale Carducci in Lucca.
A technically well-designed and challenging route to crown the new 2026 Italian Champion. The event will be sponsored by the Municipality of Lucca, the Province of Lucca and the Tuscany Region, while the main sponsors are Angelo Impianti, AIGas, Acquadolce, and Impresa Giunta Sauro. As is known, it was not possible to position the finish line on Lucca's famous Urban Walls due to a clash with another event, so it will be on Viale Carducci, at the same point where in May 2024 the Giro d'Italia stage Genova-Lucca concluded, won by Frenchman Benjamin Thomas. The Italian Championship will be valid for the 55th edition of the Trofeo Città di Lucca and in the Organizing Committee, besides president Angelo Battaglia, his father Gianfranco Battaglia serves as organizational director, along with Pierluigi Poli and Giuseppe Tomei, all well-known and experienced cycling figures. An organization that has proven to be thorough, with clear aspects in various details, and great attention to hospitality in hotel facilities and in all the collateral events that will once again be organized on the occasion of the tricolor championship thanks to the Municipal Administration, Associations, and sponsors.
