CARTAGIRO. THE PRESS REVIEW OF THE GIRO D'ITALIA

GIRO D'ITALIA | 29/05/2026 | 09:00
di Aldo Peinetti

The succession of Dolomitic climbs today, from the very presentation of the Giro route with the Feltre-Alleghe stage, already invited not only cycling enthusiasts but also a large crowd of amateur cyclists who know those passes meter by meter to make an effort of memory. The day of the Cima Coppi, the Giau at 2236 meters elevation, and a mountain stage with 5000 meters of elevation gain: Gazzetta dello Sport does not plead with Vingegaard, he who has pocketed victories in three mountain finishes, but the headline is of the ultimate kind: "Jonas, now pull off the feat".

"To plant the Danish flag on the very last peak of the last mountain stage of the Giro d'Italia, from the base camp in Feltre, from where we depart today towards Alleghe, Jonas Vingegaard will climb Everest". The alpine metaphor chosen by Marco Bonarrigo in Il Corriere della Sera is accompanied by a photograph that, in Italian fashion, contains a logical expectation towards the excellent Davide Piganzoli, not only teammate of the pink jersey but - predicts Urbano Cairo - capable of finishing in the top five. The 23-year-old from Valtellina deserves the full interview published by La Stampa, a conversation with Daniela Cotto in which the new man of Italian cycling regarding the Grand Tours reveals the secrets of life as a luxury domestique. Alongside Vingegaard, he has blossomed, the meticulous Davide. In Il Giornale, Pier Augusto Stagi's choice of opening is sanctioned by the headline dedicated to Magnier: "The watershed is up at Ca' del Poggio, where "prosecco meets the sea"", reads the claim. The surprising thing is to see sprinters pass the finish line in Pieve, even more incredible is to see the Frenchman Paul Magnier win on the roads of Prosecco". The Frenchman is at his third toast on the podium as a winner. A thread of sprint victories closed in glory that connects Bulgaria to... the Venetian sea, with L'Equipe's reference to the great tradition of Italian cinema. To put it in headline terms: "The sweet victory".

GAZZETTA DELLO SPORT
JONAS, NOW PULL OFF THE FEAT
The Dolomites are there. They await Jonas Vingegaard with a load of beauty and history that has no equal in the world. At the Giro d'Italia the third-to-last day, today, is the day of the mountain stage: 5000 meters of elevation gain between Feltre and Alleghe and a sequence that enthusiasts and others alike have been reciting from memory for days, if not months: Duran, Coi, Forcella Staulanza, the Giau from the harder side (Cima Coppi at 2236 meters elevation), Falzarego and the final climb to Piani di Pezzè. An agonistic marvel. Vingegaard has the Giro in hand and already on Tuesday in Carì he exulted in the pink jersey. (Ciro Scognamiglio)

CORRIERE DELLA SERA
VINGO'S FINAL EFFORTS, ON THE GIRO'S EVEREST HE WANTS TO SETTLE ACCOUNTS
To plant the Danish flag on the very last peak of the last mountain stage of the Giro d'Italia, from the base camp in Feltre, from where we depart today towards Alleghe, Jonas Vingegaard will climb Everest. In fact, more than that: the Himalayan giant towers at 8,849 meters, the total elevation gain of today and tomorrow reaches 9,061. The exhausted sprinters (yesterday Paul Magnier brought himself to 3-0 against Milan), the passistas tired, convalescing, wounded retrace the stages of the Via Crucis that awaits them: Duran, Forcella Staulanza, the monstrous Giau, Falzarego and Piani di Pezzè today, the double Piancavallo tomorrow. (Marco Bonarrigo)

LA STAMPA
PIGANZOLI, LIFE AS A LUXURY DOMESTIQUE "MY DIRTY WORK FOR VINGEGAARD"
"I can't stop because it's raining, I'm sweaty and I'm afraid of catching a cold". Davide Piganzoli, 23 years old from Morbegno, Valtellina, now has the same attention to detail as his captain. It's no coincidence that he is the shadow of the strongest rider in the Giro d'Italia, the pink jersey Jonas Vingegaard. The king of climbs is a maniac for details, the keys to his successes. Thanks to him, Davide has become a luxury domestique, the man who protects the star of Visma Lease eBike, one of the strongest teams in modern cycling also thanks to artificial intelligence. Vingegaard is leading the general classification. He is the man everyone watches, controls and often attacks. But behind him is the faithful servant. (Daniela Cotto)

IL GIORNALE
SPRINT IN PIEVE; MAGNIER'S HAT-TRICK, MILAN DISAPPOINTED
The watershed is up at Ca' del Poggio, where "prosecco meets the sea", reads the claim. The surprising thing is to see sprinters pass the finish line in Pieve, even more incredible is to see the Frenchman Paul Magnier win on the roads of Prosecco.
After Burgas and Sofia comes Pieve di Soligo, act three. Piloted wonderfully by the jack-of-all-trades Stuyven, the Frenchman born in Texas completes the work with a regal sprint without ifs or buts. "It's not the most beautiful success because they all are, but it's certainly the most unexpected one", says the Soudal boy directed by the very Italian (at least that) Davide Bramati. (Pier Augusto Stagi)

L'EQUIPE
THE SWEET VICTORY
He had to vent with a few sobs, dry a few tears on a chair and be brought back to reality by someone telling him it was all true, before Paul Magnier could finally savor the moment, mouth agape.
A third victory at the Giro at 22 years old, his first in Italy after two previous successes in Bulgaria almost two weeks earlier, and prestige in constant growth as the day passes, a day that should never have ended this way. The French sprinter of Soudal Quick-Step is truly a champion. (Thomas Perotto)

TUTTOSPORT
MAGNIER'S HAT-TRICK, MILAN THIRD: ROME REMAINS
Among the prosecco hills Paul Magnier signs the hat-trick at the 2026 Giro d'Italia, Edoardo Zambanini on the podium is a pleasant confirmation, Jonathan Milan in third place increasingly a sharpshooter with wet powder and the Vicentian Francesco Busatto, fourth, the revelation. This is the verdict of the Fai della Paganella-Pieve di Soligo. From Trentino to the Marca Trevigiana there was the usual escape show by Mattia Bais, Andrea Mifsud, James Shaw, Jonas Geens. The latter with the label of an irreconcilable. While the four were leading the race, in the feed zone 49 km from the finish the white jersey Afonso Eulalio went down. (Alessandro Brambilla)

CORRIERE DELLO SPORT
MAGNIER, IT'S A SHOW
A hat-trick of dominance under a downpour. Paul Magnier strikes again and, after his two initial victories obtained in Bulgarian territory, yesterday in Pieve di Soligo he was stronger even than the terrible slopes of the Muro di Ca' del Poggio less than ten kilometers from the finish and, piloted to perfection by the usual Jasper Stuyven, he resisted the comeback of the two Italians Edoardo Zambanini (2nd) and Jonathan Milan (3rd) who had to surrender once again to the overwhelming power of the Frenchman. A victory with cyclamen hues. (Alberto Dolfin)
