To solemnly celebrate the seventieth edition of the Giro del Montalbano, a national classic for elite and under 23 amateurs scheduled in Bacchereto on Saturday, May 30th, its organizers chose the Municipality of Carmignano for the occasion, with Mayor Edoardo Prestanti and Sports Assessor Jacopo Palloni in attendance. Among the guests were also the Mayor of Poggio a Caiano Riccardo Palandri with Sports Assessor Piero Baroncelli, Municipal Councilman Marco Monticelli for the Municipality of Campi Bisenzio, and Luca Menichetti, President of the Tuscany Regional Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation. At the head table were also the presidents of the organizing societies Marco Degl'Innocenti for G.S. Bacchereto and Marco Fuochi for U.C. Seanese Corse. In their speeches, the guests highlighted the importance and prestige achieved by the race, also in terms of safety, all thanks to its organizers starting with the late Luigi Bellini, Luciano Lenzi and Carlo Drovandi, who are remembered through the race. A special jersey was created to celebrate and honor the 70 years of the event, while entries for the Giro del Montalbano have reached 184. The race in Bacchereto on Saturday will take place 7 days before the Tuscan Championship scheduled for June 6th in Lastra a Signa and two weeks before the Giro d'Italia, which will start from Reggio Calabria on June 14th.
THE ROUTE: The unofficial start from Piazza Giuseppe Verdi at 12:50 p.m., the official start from Seano at 1:00 p.m. After 48 km, the passage through the finish area where the first of three laps of 35.8 km will begin with the climb of Madonna del Papa, also known as "Il Brucio", short but with two hairpin turns at 18 percent gradient. The circuit also touches the municipalities of Signa in the Arrighi area and San Miniato, that of Campi Bisenzio with the passage through Sant'Angelo a Lecore, and naturally Poggio a Caiano. The next two passages through Bacchereto at km 83.5 and at km 119, while the total distance will be 155 kilometers, at the end of which the Englishman Ben Granger won in 2025.
