Mario Cipollini underwent heart surgery again this morning at Tor Vergata hospital by the team led by Professor Andrea Natale. Supermario himself explained his clinical condition yesterday in a lengthy post: "Unfortunately, the myocarditis that was diagnosed in 2020, and which probably developed the year before, threw my heart's electrical system into chaos. Last November a defibrillator was implanted in me - and I assure you it wasn't easy, I didn't want it and Dr. Roberto Corsetti had to work hard to convince me to do it - but the electrical problem kept recurring and forcing me to deal with a quality of life that was far from ideal. Corsetti himself, whom I will never stop thanking for the brotherly commitment with which he has followed me for years, told me about Professor Natale. I was ready to go to the United States where he works and operates, but fortunately he comes to Italy from time to time to treat us, his fellow countrymen.
"Professor Natale is a luminary and is practically the inventor of this procedure - forgive my basic terminology - which allows the heart's electrical system to be recalibrated. My problem is not a functional one but an electrical one".
And immediately after the surgery, Cipollini, still a bit groggy from anesthesia, wanted to reassure the many friends and fans who have supported him in recent days, explaining: "The surgery went very well, as you can see they entered through the jugular vein to reach the heart. And I can tell you that from the moment I woke up, I feel a great lightness in my heartbeat, a regularity that I was no longer used to. Thanks to the extraordinary Professor Natale, thanks to Roberto, thanks to all of you who once again cheered me on".
