Afonso Eulalio defended the pink jersey yesterday on the Blockhaus with great character. He had a 6'22" advantage over Vingegaard at the start from Formia, and now leads the Giro with a 3'17" margin over the Dane: he lost 2'55" to Vingo, plus the 10" time bonus. "Phew, it was a super long stage and a super hard climb, and on top of that there was wind, lots of wind – says the 24-year-old Portuguese rider from Bahrain-Victorious, in his third day in the pink jersey -. The team did perfect work all day long, for 250 kilometers!. Even in the final Damiano (Caruso, ed.) was perfect, he was always with me. We survived, and I kept the pink jersey, maintaining it is the objective for the coming days".
Today the Muri di Fermo, Sunday the uphill finish at Corno alle Scale above Bologna, Monday rest day and Tuesday the 42 kilometers of the flat time trial from Viareggio to Massa. "Well, Vingegaard has shown he is very strong – Eulalio continues -, he reduced the gap, now he's second in the standings and he's coming. I think that all the teams and all the riders know that Jonas is one of the favorites to win the Giro and he will be the one to wear the pink jersey, but we have to fight and we have to try to keep it for as long as possible. I will certainly fight until the end".
