A memorable day for Lorenzo Masciarelli at the Tour of Hellas 2026. In the fourth and penultimate stage of the Greek stage race, the twenty-two-year-old Italian from MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort won solo on the finish line climb of Parnitha, securing the first professional victory of his career.
Behind him, arriving with a delay of 28 seconds, was Nicolò Pettiti (Swatt Club), protagonist together with the rider from Pescara and the fourth-placed finisher today, Lorenzo Ginestra (Swatt Club), of the day's breakaway of nine riders that started a few kilometers after the start from Atalanti. Decisive for the winner of the 2025 Under 23 Gran Premio Liberazione was the violent attack launched just over 7 kilometers from the line, an acceleration that Pettiti (supported masterfully until shortly before by the third Swatt rider in the breakaway today, Mads Andersen) was unable to contain, subsequently losing ground progressively in the following kilometers against the nephew of Palmiro Masciarelli.
Like him, particularly brilliant in the second part of the extremely long concluding climb (17.4 km at 4.9% average) was also the twenty-one-year-old from Kasper crypto4me Václav Ježek. The latter, caught in the final kilometer together with Colin Stüssi (Team Vorarlberg) after the two had launched a counterattack following the first major selection in the group made by Domenico Pozzovivo (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali), had the strength to beat in the sprint the small group that came to contest third place and the bonus seconds thanks to which the Czech rider, born in 2001, jumped to the top of the standings, dethroning the previous leader Jelle Johannink (winner yesterday and today widely dropped).
Given the contained gaps, however, despite only one day remaining, the Czech rider cannot yet celebrate as with the lively Pozzovivo at 11 seconds and the trio Stüssi-Odd Christian Eiking-Alessandro Verre at 13" there is reason to expect a battle for the podium until the last kilometer of the Piraeus-Syntagma (146.5 km) that will tomorrow definitively close the curtain on the 21st edition of the Greek race.
