The Team Picnic PostNL is thrilled to announce that John Degenkolb, a historic member of the squad, custodian of cycling culture and a cycling legend, has extended his contract through the 2027 season.
Degenkolb boasts 16 years of professional cycling career, with ten of those spent with Team Picnic PostNL. From his early days and successes, including ten stage wins at the Vuelta a España, to his Giro d'Italia victory, to the memorable double of Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix in 2015, and his return to the team in early 2022, it has been a truly shared journey between Degenkolb and the team. Now, with a role more focused on that of road captain, Degenkolb will continue to share his vast experience and knowledge with the new generation of talents emerging at Team Picnic PostNL.
Degenkolb commented: "Even today, it is a great dream for me to be a professional cyclist. If you think that I started cycling as a hobby as a child and my passion has grown since then, then you understand that it's like living the dream of my childhood. Being able to continue for another season, until 2027, gives me great personal joy; being able to continue chasing this dream for a little longer. Within the team, I am truly happy with my role as road captain. At the beginning of my career, when I held a different role, aiming for victories in the most important races, I always relied on excellent road captains. This showed me how important it is, for an ambitious young rider, to have experienced riders and people around you. I want to be able to fulfill this role for our young, talented and ambitious riders on the team, and I am truly happy to have this opportunity for another season."
