A seal strongly desired, a seal from a champion. Giulio Pellizzari conquers as a dominator the victory in the fifth and final stage of the Tour of the Alps and above all the overall victory in the Euregio race. The rider from Marche with Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe attacked on the climb and dropped all his rivals, securing his second stage victory and bringing Italy back to a triumph that had been missing since 2013 when Vincenzo Nibali won the then Giro del Trentino.
Thirty seconds behind Pellizzari, second place for Egan Bernal, third for Storer and fourth for Arensman. Excellent performance by Giovanni Aleotti who, after working brilliantly for captain Pellizzari, finished in ninth place.
THE RACE. The most important action of the stage was initiated by Lennart Jasch (Tudor), Sam Oomen (Lidl-Trek), Rainer Kepplinger (Bahrain Victorious), Alastair Mackellar, Juan Felipe Rodriguez (EF Education-EasyPost), Koen Bouwman (Jayco AlUla), Vicente Rojas (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber), Dina Marton (MBH Bank Csb Telecom Fort), Mattia Bais (Polti VisitMalta), Tom Pidcock, Mark Donovan (Pinarello Q36.5) and Nicolò Garibbo (Team Ukyo). The climbs towards Bolzano gradually reduced the small group until only Pidcock and Rodriguez remained at the front.
Behind them, Jayco AlUla and Ineos Grenadiers first set the pace, then Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe took control of the race with Aleotti preparing Pellizzari's attack on the Montoppio climb. Behind the rider from Marche, Bernal, Arensman and Storer tried to resist, but there was nothing they could do against the rider in the green jersey.
