A two-year sentence with suspended execution: this is the outcome of the plea bargain for the 72-year-old driver who on January 24, 2025, during an overtaking maneuver, hit and killed 19-year-old cyclist Sara Piffer from Trentino, who was training with her brother Christian between Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo in Piana Rotaliana.
Yesterday, Judge Marco Tamburrino also decided on the suspension of the driving license for 4 years (the prosecutor Davide Ognibene, who handled the road homicide case, had requested license revocation) for the man who was driving the car that struck the girl.
Once again, it is evident from the facts, that only the victims pay the price, particularly cyclists: for the perpetrator of this road homicide there is no real sanction other than being unable to drive for the next three years. Is there anything else to say?
