Nineteen kilometers in perfect solitude, tackled as a dominant force, to claim victory at the finish line of the Tour of Flanders: Demi Vollering truly delivered a spectacular performance on the roads and climbs of Belgium, securing one of the most impressive victories of her career.
The acceleration with which she forced the surrender of the group of elite riders that had been selected climb after climb was truly spectacular, and all attempts to chase her down proved futile: the FDJ United Suez Dutch rider was simply too strong, crossing the finish line in Oudenaarde with a 42-second advantage over Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) and Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Premier Tech). Silvia Persico and Elisa Longo Borghini finished seventh and eighth respectively in the wake of their teammate Karlijn Swinkels.
For Vollering, today's victory marks the 60th win of her career.
