Tom Pidcock abandons the Volta a Catalunya. Following the crash he suffered yesterday during the fifth stage, the British rider underwent a thorough medical evaluation by the team's medical staff and at the hospital.
Lorenz Emmert, the team's medical director, stated: "As a result of the crash, Tom has sustained injuries, most likely to bones and ligaments, particularly to his right knee and right wrist. Unfortunately, we had to make the decision to withdraw him from the race. Further clinical and radiographic examinations will follow in the coming days, in addition to the recovery process already underway"
Pidcock will remain under close observation in the coming days, with further evaluations ongoing. The British rider stated: "We did everything possible to try to make the start, but it wasn't possible. I fought to finish yesterday's stage to ensure I had the opportunity to continue. Now the focus is on recovery and getting back as soon as possible".
