The INEOS Grenadiers are not joking around and, step by step, are increasingly on the right track to restore, in the coming seasons, the glory of their recent past. With the idea, in fact, of returning to being one of the superpowers of world cycling by building a team capable of competing on every front with the various UAE Team Emirates-XRG, Lidl-Trek, Red Bull BORA hansgrohe and Visma Lease a Bike, the British team has been working over the past few months to secure the necessary funds for this purpose by seeking and signing some strategic partnerships.
The latest, reached with one of Denmark's major software and IT services companies, is one of the most significant because it will bring into the coffers of Sir Dave Brailsford's team, as reported by Cyclingnews and Ciro Scognamiglio of La Gazzetta dello Sport, a total of 20 million euros per season for the next five years.
This operation, whose official announcement will be made shortly before the start of the 2026 Tour de France from Barcelona, could allow the English team to concretely approach the target of 50 million euros in annual budget, a target that, however, requires that, in parallel with the entry of the new Scandinavian title sponsor, TotalEnergies (which joined the team starting last season) also decides to renew its agreement with the British squad, perhaps also as a title sponsor, bringing the figures closer to those put on the table by the new Northern European investors.
If such a scenario were to materialize and therefore if the new team were to find itself with a base of 40 million euros per year from its two major sponsors, then for the new INEOS Grenadiers (a company that, while seeing its name disappear from the team's jersey, would remain the owner of the team) would open up extremely interesting scenarios and possibilities.
With that kind of liquidity and economic foundation, in fact, nothing would prevent the English powerhouse from assembling a first-rate team for both one-day races and Grand Tours, going after premium market pieces such as, for example, that Paul Seixas on whom, given the performances of recent weeks, it is reasonable to believe that many will soon be thinking.
Brailsford's representative, strengthened by the economic support guaranteed by the new sponsor and possibly by TotalEnergies, could become one of the most serious contenders in the race for the French talent of Decathlon CMA CGM (with whom he is under contract until 2027) who, alongside two other interesting prospects signed this year such as Oscar Onley and Kevin Vauquelin, would form an axis capable from the start of targeting the podium in all stage races and the most demanding classics on the calendar.
