Tudor Pro Cycling Team has found reason to smile: after yesterday's crashes at Omloop Nieuwsblad and today at Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne, Fabian Cancellara's team achieved second place with Luca Mozzato and third with Matteo Trentin. Two important finishes that bode well for the team's Classics season that has just begun.
"Yes, today we definitely have a different expression on our faces, yesterday was a rather sad day for the team because we didn't simply have a tough race – Mozzato said in mixed zone interviews - We had some guys who crashed and got hurt quite badly. So the mood in the team wasn't very good".
Luca Mozzato climbed the podium today in the second Flemish race of the season, an important result that will certainly give the team a boost to do even better in the races of March and April. The Arzignano rider is in his first year with Tudor, but in 2024 when he was racing with Arkea he finished second at the Tour of Flanders behind Mathieu van der Poel and just days before had crossed the finish line first in the Bredene Koksijde Classic.
Tudor today, before the race start, gathered its riders and together they established the best strategy to tackle the race. "When we were on the bus before the race we decided that we had to turn the page. We said that we had to be ourselves again and that we had to do our best, despite what happened yesterday, when some of our teammates went down".
During the Omloop there were many riders who crashed during the race and Kung, Mozzato's teammate, suffered a significant leg fracture and for this reason will be forced to stay away from racing for quite some time. "We said it was important to turn the page and do our best and that we shouldn't think about yesterday anymore and that it was important to move forward. That's what we decided to do and both Matteo and I managed it". Mozzato finished second and Matteo Trentin third, a positive result that pushes us to look ahead and do better in the future. "Today we go home with two podium places. We can be happy and proud of this result. It was a very aggressive race, even though the victory was ultimately decided in a final sprint, but there were many attacks and we had to keep our attention high at all times".
The Veneto rider managed the race well and his preparation was also optimal, with a winter in which he was able to work well and be ready for the season's opening. "Actually, for me, halfway through the race it wasn't very easy, I was never in the front part of the group and I had to suffer a bit, but then I managed to save energy for the sprint. I pulled it off and I can be happy with this result and I know I have to look ahead with optimism".
