Two months remain until the Lazio Bike Days, two days of great cycling for all ages in the heart of Rome, which will "contain" the 79th Gran Premio della Liberazione. An appointment with history, the present and the future branded Terenzi Sport Eventi at the Terme di Caracalla, Friday April 24th and Saturday April 25th.
Friday 24th morning the Coati Liberazione Juniores will see over 30 teams from the best in Italy and beyond competing, with spotlights also on foreign teams such as the Mexican Monex, the Uzbekistan National team and a large German selection. Then, straddling lunch time and early afternoon, the DPiù Liberazione Allievi and the VF Costruzioni Liberazione Esordienti will constitute the jewel in the crown of the GP Ciclismo Oggi e Domani, a "challenge" that includes almost thirty youth races from Central-Southern Italy in 2026.
Saturday 25th, the main races. At 9 o'clock the Caleffi Liberazione Women will start, an international women's race that (speaking of Italian challenges) will constitute the fifth stage of the Coppa Italia delle Regioni, an initiative of the Professional Cycling League that guarantees RAI television coverage for this race: the much-awaited UAE ADQ, which has dominated for two years both in the record books and on the podium; among the squads that will try to trouble this top team, numerous Italian Continental teams and the Swiss Nexetis, but also the Ukrainian national team and other teams from various European countries. Simultaneously, the Liberazione Baby will unleash the Juveniles on short track courses.
At noon, here's one of the moments that characterizes the GP Liberazione in a deeper sense, setting aside the competitive aspect to exalt the social and solidarity aspect: the Bike4Fun – Pedalata del Dono, which in collaboration with ANED Sport and AIDO allows anyone to ride their own bike through the streets of the historic center among the monuments of the Eternal City, to spend an hour of celebration and carefree fun on two wheels while raising awareness on the fundamental topic of organ donation. The soul of Bike4Fun is Prof. Mariano Feccia, director of the Lazio Transplant Center, who'll also coordinate the Health Village that will stand alongside the traditional village with food services near the finish line.
At 2 p.m. the Gran Premio della Liberazione proper, heir to the "Amateur World Championship of spring" born in 1946 from the ashes of war: the men's Under 23 race, for a total of 138 km that will call together teams from three continents for over ten nationalities. Most of the Italian Continental teams have so far confirmed their participation, from Biesse Carrera to Nippo Toscana Factory, the "Devo" of WorldTeam such as UAE and NSN, and many other equipped teams ready to put on a show in the capital.
Five races, with hundreds of cyclists from all over the world who'll hunt for the success that last year was achieved by Lorenzo Masciarelli (U23), Paula Blasi (Women), Connor Wright (Juniores), Andrea Alessiani (Allievi), Luca Ferro (Esordienti).
Not only that: during the two days of the 79th GP Liberazione there will also be a competition for amateurs and a running race at the end of the event. More news to follow: the official website is www.gpliberazione.it and the event has social profiles on Facebook and Instagram.
