After a stellar 2025, marked by 18 victories and a second place in the Giro d'Italia general classification that sparked discussion, Isaac Del Toro is ready to return to racing. The Mexican will make his seasonal debut at the UAE Tour next February 16th, the home race for his team and given recent years' results, UAE will start as super favorites.
The UAE Tour has proven particularly successful for the Emirati team, which won in 2021, 2022, and 2025 thanks to Tadej Pogacar, and this year the Mexican himself could put his signature on the victory.
«I can't wait to start my first UAE Tour. It's a special race for me – said the twenty-two-year-old from Ensenada – In some ways, it's like racing at home and this gives us a sense of pride and responsibility».
Del Toro knows winning won't be easy and will have to deal with Remco Evenepoel, who has already had an excellent start to the season with six victories in eight racing days. «The level here will be very high, with some of the world's best riders at the starting line. We've prepared very well as a group and we're ready to give our all and race aggressively».
This year, the Mexican won't race the Giro d'Italia and will be alongside Pogacar at the Tour de France. «Was it Tadej who wanted me at the Tour? I think you should ask him. I know it's important for me to race by his side and I'm happy to do so, it's always been a desire of mine. It's like a dream, so I'll try to be at his level».
Del Toro will race with Pogacar, but his role this season will certainly not be that of a domestique. «I know I'll have my opportunities and I don't want to lose any that are offered to me. Not all my schedule will be with Tadej, some races will serve to see if I can seize the opportunity and reach a different level this year and see if I'll be able to maintain the level throughout the year. We'll see how things go, but I'm really excited about everything I'll have to do».
Isaac Del Toro has proven he can race well in stage races and one-day events, and perhaps later he'll need to understand where to focus more or if he can be like Pogacar, extraordinary in any scenario.
«Every rider is different, and personality is also important, so I don't know what I'll do. I just try to enjoy every racing day. Of course, I have preferences, but I won't say what I like more».
The Mexican started cycling as a child following his older brother's footsteps and that's how he understood he wanted to become a professional cyclist.
«In my family, I started riding bikes and by following my brother, I decided to start cycling. When you have an older brother who does the same sport, you try to be competitive. I started thinking I had to be better than him and that's how I became more and more competitive. Then I seized all the opportunities that came my way and now I'm here and I'll try to do my best».
