The final day of races at the Konya European Track Championships once again brings joy to Italy. Elisa Balsamo and Federica Venturelli have won the bronze medal in the madison.
The race was dominated by Belgian duo Kopecky and Bossuyt, the only pair capable of gaining a lap on their rivals, while the Azzurre were just a hair's breadth away from gaining a lap and the silver medal. The British pair Katy Archibald and Anna Morris finished with 27 points, while the Italian pair stopped at 26.
Of note was Venturelli's excellent performance, who hadn't raced the madison for years, last competing in Cottbus as a junior, where she had fallen and broken her wrist, subsequently setting aside the discipline.
WOMEN'S KEIRIN. European title goes to Russian Akina Lysenko, who beat French rider Mathilde Gros and German Lea Sophie Freidrich. Miriam Vece finished eighth in the tournament and Matilde Cenci thirteenth.
MEN'S KEIRIN. As in yesterday's sprint, British rider Matthew Richardson beat Dutch rider Harrie Lavreysen, who appeared not at his best in this championship. Bronze medal went to Belgian Lowie Nulens. Italian riders Stefano Moro and Mattia Predomo were eliminated in the repechage.
MEN'S MADISON. An extraordinary display of strength from Roger Kluge, who today celebrates his 40th birthday and led his teammate Moritz Augenstein to victory. Silver for Portuguese riders Iuri Leitao and Diogo Narciso, bronze for Belgium's Jasper De Buyst and Jules Hesters.
Fifth place for the new Italian pair of Simone Consonni and Juan David Sierra, who animated the race especially in the final, finishing with 31 points, seven short of a podium spot.
