Jonathan Milan signs a splendid double and conquers victory also in the second stage of the AlUla Tour, contested with start and finish in AlManshiyah over a distance of 152 km. Perfect work by Lidl Trek, which guided the Friulian sprinter who in the sprint did not give his opponents any chance, marking his 27th career success in the top category.
Plenty of Italy in the top five with Daniel Skerl (Bahrain Victorious) second, Matteo Moschetti (Pinarello Q36.5) fourth and Matteo Malucelli (XdS Astana) fifth, with only Pascal Ackermann (Jayco AlUla) inserting himself in third place.
Unlucky was German rider Phil Bauhaus of Bahrain Victorious, who punctured 6 km from the finish and had to give up competing in the sprint. Out of contention was also Fabio Jakobsen, slowed down by cramps 5 km from the finish line.
THE RACE. The first action was promoted by Iacomoni (Team Ukyo), Kee and Rosli (Tertengganu), Alrahbi and Al-Wahibi from the Oman national team.
The group was split 79 kilometers from the finish by echelons, with the peloton "challenging" itself at an average speed well above 50 kilometers per hour.
At 37 kilometers from the finish, an attempt by Stefan De Bod (Modern Adventure) and Mathias Breghnoj (Terengganu) was made, but the group, pulled by Lidl Trek, never gave them space and regrouped at the 20 km to go marker.
By winning the intermediate sprint 11 km from the finish, Jan Christen (UAE Emirates XRG) secured three bonus seconds, two for his teammate Vermaerke and one for Koerdt of Team Picnic PostNL.
