Lidl-Trek has established a multi-year partnership with Gatorade and the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI), bringing world-class hydration innovations to one of the most ambitious teams in the group. Through this collaboration, Lidl-Trek athletes will receive personalized hydration strategies based on GSSI's leading sweat analysis and performance testing technologies, ensuring cyclists are prepared for peak performance in the most challenging races. Notably, this marks Gatorade's return to professional cycling for the first time since 2013.
As part of the partnership, the Gatorade brand will be prominently featured on the Lidl-Trek race kit, including jerseys, socks, and the team's iconic Gatorade water bottles, long considered one of the most coveted road souvenirs in professional cycling.
With over 60 years of market experience, Gatorade has become a global icon. From professional sports locker rooms to high school gyms, from scientific laboratories to Formula 1 tracks, the beverage has fueled the world's greatest athletes for generations. Through this collaboration, Lidl-Trek is fine-tuning race hydration down to the smallest details. In modern cycling, even a marginal gain can make the difference between victory and second place. Slight dehydration can compromise power, precision, and decision-making in critical race moments. Through this partnership, Lidl-Trek aims to achieve measurable performance advantages with personalized hydration strategies.
"Hydration doesn't mean drinking more, but drinking more intelligently," stated Josu Larrazabal, Performance Director of Lidl-Trek. "Collaborating with Gatorade and GSSI allows us to conduct individual sweat tests and develop personalized hydration programs based on each cyclist's physiology, workload, and environmental conditions. It's a detail that might seem insignificant, but can offer a real competitive advantage and enable our cyclists to give their best."
Natalia Filippociants, General Manager of PepsiCo Beverages Europe, responded: "Gatorade has been providing energy to some of the world's best athletes for years, and we're proud to bring the same science and support to professional cycling. Essentially, our mission remains simple: help every athlete do a little better, whether they're part of a professional team or participating in a local ride. Through GSSI's sweat tests, each Lidl-Trek cyclist receives a hydration plan specifically designed for them. It's clear, precise, personalized, and supported by scientific data. Gatorade provides athletes with carbohydrates for energy and the fluids and electrolytes they lose through sweating. This is how we help unlock that extra one percent with intelligent, scientifically proven hydration that supports performance."
