In 2028, the KNWU - Dutch Cycling Federation - will celebrate its first 100 years and will do so by organizing top-level competitions. The union will celebrate this anniversary with the Dutch Cycling Festival: a year-long program that will make the Netherlands the center of international cycling in the Olympic year of 2028.
After announcing that the 2028 Cyclocross World Championships will be held in Hoogerheide, today comes the confirmation of a new double allocation: the European Road Cycling and BMX Freestyle Championships will be held in North Brabant, with the road event having the Cauberg as its hot spot.
The festival is not a traditional event lasting a few days or weeks, but a series of championships distributed throughout the country. The competitions will not be an end in themselves, but will become catalysts for social and community projects to get more people, especially children, cycling.
"Cycling brings people together, provides freedom, and contributes to a healthy society. It's fantastic that the province of North Brabant and its partners are an important part of the Dutch Cycling Festival, hosting three high-level sporting events in 2028," writes Maurice Leeser, director and executive board member of the KNWU on the federation's website. "Together with our cyclists, cycling clubs, volunteers, and partners, we demonstrate how high-level sports, fun, and social impact can go hand in hand."
