Two great former riders strengthen the performance team of the INEOS Grenadiers: Elia Viviani and Daryl Impey join the British team as Sports Directors ahead of the 2026 season.
Viviani joins the team after a brilliant career both on the road and on the track, which includes a Tour de France stage win among his 90 road victories as a professional, as well as Olympic and World track titles. A former Grenadier, the Italian spent three seasons with the team before recently retiring from racing.
Impey, a former South African national champion, became the first African cyclist to wear the yellow jersey at the Tour de France in 2013 and won a Tour stage in 2019. He concluded a brilliant 16-year professional career in 2023, before successfully taking on the role of Sports Director.
"I am excited to return to a team that has always made me feel at home, first as a cyclist and now as a staff member," Viviani stated. I want to give my best to support the riders and share everything I have learned throughout my career. The team is entering a new era, and I am excited to be part of this challenge."
Daryl Impey, in turn, said: "I can't wait to work with the riders and staff and contribute to the team's future ambitions. I have raced against INEOS Grenadiers for many years, and even alongside some staff members early in my career, so it's fantastic to work together again. Having started my career as Geraint's teammate, it's truly special to find ourselves as colleagues now. When the opportunity arose to join a team with such a clear mission and vision, it was an easy decision. I can't wait to start and kick off the new year in the best way."
Geraint Thomas, new Racing Director of the British team, stated: "Elia and Daryl are excellent additions to our team. Their experience, professionalism, and leadership skills will be a concrete added value for INEOS Grenadiers. They will also bring new ideas and perspectives to an established environment, which is crucial for our growth as a team, as we continue to challenge ourselves in every aspect."
