The INEOS Grenadiers team today announces the appointment of Geraint Thomas as Race Director, a decision that marks the beginning of a new chapter in his career and underscores the team's evolution.
Among the most respected and decorated cyclists, Thomas transitions from the peloton to this new leadership position within INEOS Grenadiers. He will work closely with Sir Dave Brailsford, Dr. Scott Drawer, and the rest of the Senior Management Team, providing crucial input on race strategy, rider recruitment, development, and race preparation.
With over two decades of experience at the highest levels and having ridden with the team since its foundation, Thomas has been at the center of many of its most significant moments. The glorious career of the proud Welshman includes his 2018 Tour de France triumph, numerous Grand Tour podiums and stage race victories, as well as double Olympic gold medals with Team GB.
His appointment reflects the team's long-term commitment to building from within, leveraging his immense knowledge of the sport and what it takes to win, for the benefit of his fellow Grenadiers.
Geraint Thomas stated: "This team has been my home since day one, and taking on this role feels like a natural step. I've learned so much from the people around me, my fellow cyclists, and the staff, and now I want to continue building on our incredible past success, going forward. I'm excited to help the next generation grow, to pass on that experience, and to continue pushing the team towards our mission: winning the Grand Tours again. The Grenadiers will continue to race with determination, humility, and commitment to excellence, and I'm thrilled to help shape this future."
Sir Dave Brailsford adds: "Geraint perfectly embodies what it means to be a Grenadier. He has lived and breathed elite performance throughout his career. He has always set extremely ambitious goals and always achieved them. He knows what the process involves, how to handle the ups and downs of elite sport, and his willingness to share all this and mentor others to do the same is a great asset for the team. The fact that he has remained so humble and always maintained a great sense of humor are other excellent qualities to bring to his new role."
