That moment many hoped would never come has unfortunately arrived: Emmanuel Hubert, patron of the Breton Arkéa-B&B Hotels team, has announced to his employees the end of his cycling adventure.
The end was anticipated and confirmed by Emmanuel Hubert, who explained that he failed to find sponsors by the deadline set by the UCI, which was October 15th.
The Breton CEO had already repeatedly stated that his team would not restart in the World Tour or even as a ProTeam without finding the necessary funding to continue his squad, and so unfortunately Arkéa-B&B Hotels will not be in the group next year.
The Arkéa-B&B Hotels team has been forced to lay off 150 people, including 27 professional riders, 12 in the youth category, and 13 within the women's structure. Some have already found a new contract, but many are experiencing a difficult moment.
In France, there is much regret, and memories of this team return to Brest, when the Tour de France started in Arkéa's homeland. Some think more could have been done, but the situation is clear: at the highest level, it would be wise to reflect on the fate of teams that are neither small nor extremely large, but have nonetheless contributed significantly to cycling.
