Concluding 2025 on a high note to then launch, body and soul, into a new exciting adventure. This is the idea with which Davide Piganzoli will face the final efforts of the season, a year that, after his second Giro d'Italia of his career and podiums at O Gran Camiño, Route d'Occitanie and GP Industria & Artigianato, will project him into one of the most winning and strong teams in the international panorama, namely the Team Visma Lease a Bike.
With the yellow team and alongside Jonas Vingegaard, Wout van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss, the twenty-three-year-old from Valtellina will certainly have the opportunity to further refine his talent and continue his gradual growth path started with Basso and Contador, but first there is indeed the need to finish in the best possible way the adventure with the Italo-Spanish team that had the merit of launching him at high levels.
"Certainly there is a lot of desire to finish the season well. I did a good preparation for this concluding part of 2025 even though I had a crash at the Luxembourg Tour that destabilized me a bit. Let's say I'm not yet at the top, but I believe I can improve. There are still some opportunities from now until the end of the year, so we'll try to exploit them to the best," Piganzoli told us, ready to leave the Team Polti-VisitMalta full of gratitude.
"Certainly, for me these have been five beautiful years because, both in the first two as an Under and the last three as a professional, I think I've taken many satisfactions and given just as many to the team. There's no doubt that it has been an experience that made me grow as a rider but even before as a person."
It will therefore be a different and more mature Piganzoli who will arrive at Richard Plugge's team, a squad that did not take long to decide to hire the 2002 class rider and bet on him for the coming seasons.
"They wrote to me at the beginning of the year, around February," Davide explained. "At that moment I was quite busy with various races, O Gran Camiño and Tirreno, but we managed in a short time to schedule a call. Their project immediately appealed to me and before going up to Teide and then to Tour of the Alps, I signed and I must say that this gave me immediate security and tranquility," revealed Piganzoli who will find himself learning tricks, secrets and advice from some of the best climbers and stage race performers around.
"Racing with champions like those under contract with Visma will certainly be a great stimulus. I also know that, and it's normal when entering such a big team, there will be a lot of work and a lot to learn, but I'm sure I can make good steps forward," stated the Italian confidently, called to immerse himself in the new reality, like the other two new Italian signings (Fiorelli and Mattio) of the Dutch representative for 2026, starting from the next few weeks.
"At the end of November we will do four days of retreat to get to know each other, to try the bike and materials and hint a little at the calendar issue. In this regard, I will try to listen to the team, what they will propose to me and which path to follow for the first year. So, certainly, we will have a second retreat in December and then a third in January, always in Spain," concluded the native of Morbegno, showing that he already has clearly in mind what awaits him this winter.
