Jonas Vingegaard is the 63rd cyclist to win the Vuelta of Spain and is the first Dane to write his name in the golden book of the Iberian race, which has reached its 80th edition. The nations with at least one success now become 15. Spain remains firmly at the top of the ranking with 32 victories.
For Vingegaard, this is the second podium in his career at the Vuelta, after the 2nd place in 2023, seventh overall in a Grand Tour including five at the Tour de France: 1st in 2022 and 2023, 2nd in 2021, 2024, and 2025. A number that allows him to join Gaul, Ullrich, Simoni, and Contador in 16th place in the all-time ranking for Grand Tour podiums.
Vingegaard's seasonal victories rise to 6, of which 4 are in World Tour races. Almeida has secured the second podium in a Grand Tour after the 3rd place at the 2023 Giro d'Italia and has given Portugal the second placement among the top three in the history of the Vuelta. The only previous instance was 51 years ago, with Joaquim Agostinho.
Pidcock has signed the tenth British podium in the history of the Iberian race, while Giulio Pellizzari's 6th place has brought Italian cycling back to the top ten of the general classification eight years after Nibali's 2nd place in 2017. For Italy, this edition also includes two stage victories, thanks to Pellizzari and Ganna.
