Timo Kielich will join Team Visma | Lease a Bike next season: the twenty-five-year-old Belgian will strengthen the team competing in spring classics and has signed a three-year contract.
Kielich has been racing full-time on the road for only two years. Previously, he alternated road cycling with cyclocross and mountain biking. In recent seasons, he has refined his skills in supporting team leaders, particularly during the classics. He has also pursued his personal ambitions, managing to win a race every year.
"He will have a similar role with us," says race director Grischa Niermann. "Timo is a valuable addition to our team for the spring classics, supporting our leaders (replacing the departing Benoot, ed.). Additionally, he will have the opportunity to pursue his own results in other races. We also believe he can become an even better rider within our team."
Kielich himself is clearly satisfied with the move to Team Visma | Lease a Bike: "I consider this a great opportunity for me: this is only my second year in the WorldTour, but if you consider my years in off-road, I've already been part of the same team for eight years. A change of environment will do me good, and I'm curious to see how I'll be in a new team. Besides the classics, I can't wait to race a Grand Tour with a team aiming for the general classification."
