With Jonas Vingegaard as captain, Visma Lease a Bike aims to win the 2025 Vuelta. The Danish rider, second at the recent Tour de France, will have a very strong and compact team by his side, including Matteo Jorgenson, Sepp Kuss winner of the 2023 Vuelta, Victor Campenaerts, Dylan Van Baarle, Wilco Kelderman, Ben Tulett and Axel Zingle
"I can't wait to start this Vuelta," said Vingegaard. "After the Tour, I first rested a bit and then started preparing for this main goal of my season. In recent weeks, I've done an individual training camp, with the team's support on-site. I have special memories of this race: I first raced here in 2020, which we won with Primoz Roglic. In 2023, we completed our trilogy here and even stood together on the final podium in Madrid. Me second behind Kuss. We hope to add more fantastic memories this year."
"The overall victory is our big goal, there's no need to hide it," added team manager Grischa Niermann. "Jonas is our leader and our best chance to win overall. But with Kuss, we have a former winner at the start, and Jorgenson has recovered well after the Tour de France. Together with Kelderman, Tulett, Campenaerts, Van Baarle and Zingle, we have a team that can support Jonas in every situation."
The Vuelta is once again characterized by numerous mountain finishes. With a team time trial scheduled, the support of a strong team is essential.
"We'll need to be ready every day, but that's what we expect from a Grand Tour," said Niermann. "There are several interesting stages, including the team time trial and the individual time trial on stage 18. And of course, the finishes on Angliru and Bola del Mundo are always special."
These are all moments Vingegaard is eagerly awaiting.
"I'm here for the overall victory and, with this supporting team, it seems like a realistic and possible goal. There are many stages where you can make a difference, so it's important to be ready from the start. I'm ready and would prefer to start racing right away."
