Three stages, over 352 kilometers to cover, three mountain grand prix, and twenty-two teams at the start, representing twelve nations from four different continents. These are the numbers of the Mediterranean Tour in Pink, the international women's stage cycling race second in importance in our country only to the Giro d'Italia. The event, organized by the Black Panthers association and the Biesse Group, returns for its third edition from September 19 to 21.
Preparations are in full swing for a competition that, according to the calendar, will precede the World Road Cycling Championships by just a few days, scheduled this year in Kigali (Rwanda). It will be an opportunity for fans and enthusiasts to see some of the most important promises of women's cycling compete for the amaranth jersey (symbol of leadership in the general classification), a banner that in the first two editions was the prerogative first of the Italian Carlotta Cipressi (2023) and then of the Irish Lara Gillespie (2024).
The 2025 edition is entirely concentrated in Campania, with three stages that promise to be spectacular, thanks to the route design guaranteed by the organizers, led in the technical direction by Salvatore Belardo, Giuseppe Rivolta and Francesco Vitiello, while the race direction is led by Angelo Letizia, with the honorary presidency of Giovanni Mazzarella. As always, the attention of institutions is fundamental, starting from the Metropolitan City and the municipalities hosting the start and finish of individual stages, as is the contribution of sponsors.
The team presentation is scheduled for Thursday, September 18 at 6:30 PM in Cardito, in the Piazza Garibaldi area. The first stage the following day, September 19, will start from Foiano di Val Fortore, in the province of Benevento, and finish in Visciano after over 120 km and a second-category grand prix in Monteforte placed just 19 km from the finish line. On Saturday, September 20, it will be the turn of the Cardito-Frattamaggiore of almost 113 km, a stage that will wind mostly through the Caserta area, where two mountain grand prix of third category are also planned. Closing the event, on Sunday, September 21, the Caivano-Caivano, a challenge on a route of about 10.9 km that the athletes will have to complete eleven times (for a total of 119 km). This last stage, destined to assign the final victory and consecrate the winners of the other Giro classifications (Under 23-white jersey; points classification-blue jersey; climber-green jersey; best Italian-red jersey), will be dedicated to the memory of the late Senator Giacinto Russo, who passed away last May 7 and was a great sports enthusiast, as president of Boys Caivanese and promoter of the historic Coppa Caivano cycling race, who will be remembered on this occasion by the Usb Caivanese of president Pierino Magri.
