A couple of days after the conclusion of the Arctic Race in Norway, former world champion Thor Hushovd has been frequently photographed as he is the ambassador of the only professional cycling race taking place beyond the Arctic Circle. Hushovd is an experienced and attentive man who has wanted to emphasize the importance of a team like Uno-X Mobility for the entire national movement and has expressed the desire to host the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in his Norway. The country is preparing to bid farewell to Alexander Kristoff, who will leave the racing world at the end of the year, but many fans are already supporting Tobias Halland Johannessen, Jonas Abrahamsen, and Søren Wærenskjold, riders capable of winning on any terrain and representing the cycling future of Norway.
Uno-X Mobility is growing rapidly in the cycling world and won its first stage at the last Tour de France thanks to Jonas Abrahamsen in Toulouse. "It was an incredible sensation. I'm usually a calm person, but that day I couldn't hold back," Thor Hushovd recounted. "I let my joy explode because winning a Tour stage is a true liberation. I had hoped for a victory in 2024 when I took over the team's leadership, we came very close with Jonas Abrahamsen's second place in Bologna, but this year, our moment finally arrived."
Hushovd retired in 2014 with two green jerseys from the Tour de France won in 2005 and 2009 and a world championship title. Now he is the general manager of Uno-X Mobility, and his ambitions are big. He is convinced that his team has significant growth potential. "It's still a young team, about to complete its eighth year of existence. But it has never achieved such brilliant results as this year, with a stage win and a sixth place in the general classification at the Tour. No Norwegian has ever climbed so high in the rankings, so I would say we managed to race as protagonists for three weeks."
Having a team in Norway is more logistically complicated than racing in Belgium, France, or Italy, but when results arrive, everything becomes simpler. Hushovd's team has grown passion across the Scandinavian peninsula, and many young people now want to ride bikes. "The idea is to proceed step by step. I'm convinced we can find and train young riders who will become great cyclists. We must not stop and must imagine that the future winner of Paris-Roubaix or even the Tour de France will grow in our team. In my time, I had to move to France at just 20 years old to be a cyclist. Before, you had to be at an extraordinary level to be identified and hired by a foreign team. I would have liked to have a Norwegian team to grow in."
Today, young Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish talents have more opportunities to enter the cycling world thanks to Uno-X Mobility. Norway has a larger contingent of riders, but the team is open to all talents. "Now talented young riders are happy to sign a contract with us because they know they can improve their level. The country supports us more and more, and I'm very confident about the coming years. We have a very attentive staff, a good group of young riders, and growing motivation. I foresee a bright future for us."
Norway hosts the Arctic Race, and every year more champions participate in this race, but Thor Hushovd has a dream to fulfill: hosting the Tour de France.
"I dream of seeing the Tour de France start from Norway. I think this is possible. We must convince ASO, it won't be easy, but I believe it's feasible. If we manage to organize a great start in Oslo or elsewhere, cycling will literally explode. We saw this in Denmark in 2022, but I sincerely believe the grand start would be even more popular here. We are certain this will happen because Uno-X Mobility will still be here in 2030, 2040, and even 2050. Everyone wants to continue seeing our team at the start of the world's most important races, and all of Norway will work to make its riders race."
