After returning to the international calendar in 2024, 13 years after the last official edition, the Romagna Tour PRO confirms itself for 2025. The appointment for the historic professional cyclists' race is set for Sunday, September 21, with a start in Lugo and finish in Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole, locations that were already protagonists in 2024.
The route will maintain the already tested layout: a flat first part followed by a selective final circuit in the hills of Forlì, to guarantee a competitive race, open to multiple interpretations, and technically suitable for those aiming for the best condition towards the end of the season.
In 2024, the first edition of the "restart" was won by Antonio Morgado of UAE Team Emirates, a young talent in world cycling. His name has been added to a prestigious honor roll that since 1910 has seen legends like Coppi, Girardengo, Binda, Guerra, Magni, Motta, Gimondi, Saronni, and great Romagna cyclists like Ortelli, Minardi, Baldini, Cassani, Conti, and Eddy Serri triumph.
The Romagna Tour PRO thus confirms itself as a technical reference event in the end-of-season calendar, and at the same time as a territorial relaunch project: born in 2024 as a light shining on flood-damaged Romagna, today it aims to become a permanent fixture of international cycling, with the goal of increasingly involving the territory and its communities.
The race will be broadcast on Rai Sport, within the professional cycling programming. On the same day, the Romagna Tour for Juniors will also be held, reserved for young cyclists aged 15-16, with start and finish in Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole: a concrete signal of investment in the future of cycling.
Preparations are in full swing in the two municipalities hosting the start and finish, with productive collaboration between municipal administrations, led by mayors Elena Zannoni (Lugo) and Francesco Billi (Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole), the Emilia-Romagna Region, and all involved parties.
Technical organization is by ExtraGiro, with support from Emilia-Romagna Region - Sport Valley, Lugo Municipality, Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole Municipality, and collaboration with the historic SC Francesco Baracca of Lugo and Somec Bicycles. Details of the 2025 edition will be presented at a press conference scheduled for the first days of September.
