Visma-Lease a Bike certainly cannot be satisfied with this Tour de France. In no stage were the yellow jerseys truly able to put Pogacar in difficulty and even stage victories did not arrive in the number the Dutch team had imagined.
The Tour de France is almost over and it's time to take stock, and in the Visma-Lease a Bike house, a first analysis is made by Grischa Niermann, starting with yesterday's stage, finishing at La Plagne.
"We knew that Tadej also wanted to win and that UAE would control the breakaway. On the final climb, we didn't want to attack too early because we wanted Jonas to fight for the stage victory. He came close, but in the end he and Tadej launched their sprint a bit too late. Jonas once again proved to be very strong. Tadej made several attempts at the bottom of the final climb, trying to drop everyone, but Jonas always managed to stay on his wheel. He managed the situation well, saving energy. He raced very well, but in the end they didn't manage to catch Arensman".
According to Niermann, the main mistake was not responding to Arensman's move at the right time. "Perhaps they could have caught Arensman if Jonas had left earlier, but in that case Tadej would have probably been on his wheel and could have overtaken him in the sprint. It's easy to say in hindsight that Jonas should have attacked a bit earlier, but there's a good chance Pogacar would have followed his wheel and then passed him in the final meters. I don't know, you'd have to ask him, and especially Tadej. Tadej had to work hard on the final climb, and this clearly worked in our favor".
Looking at what Vingegaard has done in this Tour de France, we can certainly say that the will to do something was there. Observing the climb values and comparing them with those from previous years, we can also say that the Dane's preparation has improved and that he arrived at this Tour in excellent physical condition. However, the results don't change and Vingegaard, despite his efforts, continued to finish second and the Tour once again went to Pogacar. The Slovenian won extraordinarily and no one in this Tour ever managed to worry him, and Visma-Lease a Bike had to settle for a placement.
"Vingegaard has always shown he is strong, never gave up and as he said, he had some negative days. We must accept the results, analyze them and continue to work to always improve, because it is always possible to achieve better results".
