"Merci Poupou" is an initiative that began in 2021, when Alpecin wore a jersey that was a replica of Raymond Poulidor's yellow and purple jersey. Since that day, the initiative has continued and many funds have been donated to charity.
Year after year, the proceeds are donated to various organizations dedicated to offering children and young people the opportunity to practice sports in the broadest sense. This support is not limited to sporting activities but also extends to initiatives that help them in rehabilitation after injuries and accidents. Additionally, donations are made to charities such as Kom op Tegen Kanker (Fight Against Cancer).
This year's initiative concerns tomorrow's stage on Mont Ventoux, marking the 60th anniversary of Poulidor's victory on the Giant of Provence.
Van der Poel and his teammates will wear replica jerseys of the one worn by the great Poupou back then: the autographed jerseys, along with exclusive Oakley glasses worn during the race and engraved ABUS helmets (each with the cyclist's name and signature), will be auctioned on Catawiki.
The auction will run from July 21 to August 3 on www.mercipoupou.com/. And if you like the look, replicas of the splendid Merci Poupou jersey, created by Kala, are available for purchase. Every euro from your purchase will go directly to Merci Poupou, supporting its mission and keeping alive the spirit of cycling legend Raymond Poulidor.
