For the first time in his career, Tadej Pogacar has lost the leader's jersey twice in the same race. But when talking about a talented rider like him, such a statistic can also be... insignificant. The Alps and Pyrenees climbs will make the difference and the yellow jersey will only have real value on the day the strongest rider wears it in Paris. The Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates XRG had a good day during the tenth stage of the Tour de France, despite surrendering the yellow jersey to Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost). The world champion at the finish line was smiling, but thinks the climbs of the tenth stage were not long enough to make a difference with other general classification contenders.
"The climbs were not selective enough, in my opinion." Calm but also concise, Pogacar did not want to comment much on yesterday's stage. "I had excellent legs during the race and the team managed the day impeccably. In the end, Visma - Lease a Bike failed to make any difference. They tried many things during the stage, but in my view, the climbs were not challenging enough to create real gaps in the general classification."
A few subtle jabs were not missing, and Pogacar once again made observations about Visma-Lease a Bike. According to the Slovenian, the Dutch team had tried to achieve something that ultimately did not bring the hoped-for result.
The world champion and number one favorite for victory said he was relieved to avoid the ceremonies after the stage and, above all, to spend less time on the obligations of the yellow jersey wearer on a rest day.
