The first stage of a grand tour always brings important emotions: and if we expect a sprint to assign the first jersey, then adrenaline literally flows like a river, just like today in Lille. It was 2020, the Tour exceptionally started on August 29 due to Covid, first stage with start and finish in Nice, victory of Alexander Kristyoff ahead of Mads Pedersen and Cees Bol: that was the last time sprinters could compete for the first yellow jersey.
And today, anticipation for the sprint: the stage will take place along the roads of Pas-de-Calais, some 4th category côtes will be faced to assign the first polka dot jersey - particularly the côte de Cassel at km 106 and the côte du Mont Noir at km 139.7 - and then the sprinters' teams will take control towards the finish line placed exactly at the foot of the Citadel.
