Damiano Caruso knows the Giro roads well and yesterday, with the first mountain finish at Marsia, he showed that he's also in the race. In the team with him is also Antonio Tiberi, but as always, the road will decide who is the strongest. "The stage was for me but also for Antonio. The climb in the first part was quite technical, in short, the group was wavering".
The standings are clear, with the stage victory going to Ayuso, who made a fantastic attack, with the pink jersey on Roglic's shoulders. But all the others arrived with the same delay, with Tiberi and Caruso in sixth and seventh place.
"Yesterday I was certainly not fighting for the stage, but it's a technical matter: on such an explosive finish, as far as I'm concerned, I'm super satisfied with both the team's performance and mine, and it was also a good race for Antonio".
The men to beat will be Ayuso and Roglic, and especially on the Slovenian, Caruso thinks we should expect a lot. "Ayuso is no surprise, let's say we all know his value. He's doing what he promised. Regarding Roglic, it's true that he arrived a bit detached, but I don't trust him much. He knows a lot, so over the course of the three weeks he still has to show everything. For me, however, it's perfectly fine this way".
