The Tour de Hongrie is back in the International Cycling Union (UCI) calendar as a ProSeries event. This time, the occasion is special: the first Hungarian Tour took place 100 years ago.

The 46th edition will take place from May 14 to 18, 2025, but the program starts already tomorrow. A true cycling festival awaits participants at Műegyetem Rakpart in Budapest, with exhibitors, lotteries, spinning, a cycling conference, bicycle tours, meet & greet with Blanka Vas and Dylan Groenewegen and, of course, the presentation of the 2025 Tour de Hongrie Team, broadcast live on the Hungarian sports channel M4 Sport.

The following day, May 14, the Tour de Hongrie will start in the same place where the first one began one hundred years ago: Szent Gellért Square. The first destination for the group will be Győr, another host city of the 1925 race, where sprinters will compete for the yellow jersey. On May 15, there will be another flat stage along the eastern shore of Lake Balaton between Veszprém and Siófok, followed by the queen stage: the group will begin its journey to the top of Kékestető (11 km at 5.5%) from the Royal Palace of Gödöllő. Saturday will feature another stage for sprinters between Tata and Székesfehérvár, and on May 18 the final stage will start from Etyek to decide the overall victory on the climbs of Pilis and the cobblestone streets of Esztergom. The race will conclude in front of the Esztergom Basilica. Over the five days, a total of 875 km and more than 7,000 meters of elevation await the group.

This year, 126 riders from 21 teams will be at the start of the Tour de Hongrie. Six WorldTeams will participate (Lidl - Trek, UAE Team Emirates XRG, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, Jayco AlUla, Bahrain Victorious, XDS Astana), including the top three in this year's UCI World Rankings (UAE, Lidl - Trek, XDS Astana). They will be joined by nine ProTeams, five Continental Teams, and one Cyclocross ProTeam.

In recent years, it has almost become a tradition for sprinters to prepare for the Tour de France in Hungary. Three of the world's fastest riders will be here: the 2021 green jersey winner Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious), six-time Tour de France stage winner Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla) and track cycling Olympic champion Sam Welsford (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe). Alongside them, they will have the opportunity to compete for stage victories, including Pan-American champion Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates XRG), former European champion Giacomo Nizzolo (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) and track cycling world champion Tim Torn Teutenberg (Lidl - Trek).

The general classification seems particularly unpredictable this year, without previous winners or clear favorites. Pablo Torres (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Sergio Higuita and Harold Martin Lopez (XDS Astana), Rainer Kepplinger (Bahrain Victorious), Emil Herzog (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe), Ivan Sosa (Equipo Kern Pharma), Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) and Albert Withen Philipsen (Lidl – Trek) seem to be the main candidates.

For the first time since 2017, the Hungarian national team will not participate, but there will be 15 Hungarians in the group. This is thanks to the participation of 3 Hungarian continental teams: Epronex – Hungary Cycling Team, Karcag Cycling – Épkar Team and Team United Shipping. Also racing are Márton Dina (Euskaltel – Euskadi), Márk Valent (MBH Bank Ballan CSB), Erik Fetter (Team United Shipping) and Bálint Feldhoffer (Team United Shipping).

As usual, the 2025 Tour de Hongrie will feature four distinctive jerseys. The most valuable of these will be the Yellow Jersey sponsored by Visit Balaton 365, Active Hungary and the Hungarian Cycling Federation, which will go to the general classification leader. The Green Jersey from Skoda and Europcar will go to the points classification leader. The Red Jersey from Cofidis will go to the mountain classification leader. The white jersey from Magyar Közút will be awarded to the best Hungarian rider in the general classification.

The 46th Tour de Hongrie can be followed by viewers from almost all countries in the world. According to the international media distribution partner, Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), Tour de Hongrie coverage will be broadcast on at least 67 channels in more than 180 countries.
